"-Marcos, blessed and dearest son I bless you once again today with all the solemn blessings of MY Immaculate HEART, which on this day has been so consoled and rejoiced to see before Me My DIVINE risen SON shining brighter than the sun!"
I bless all My Sons who have come today, I bless you all this instant. Dearest Children, continue with all the prayers I have commanded you to do, for they greatly dry My Tears and remove the Thorns of pain from MY HEART. Continue to pray little children, because this year I have great plans for you, I want to make you great saints, but I need your collaboration, your prayer, your obedience and docility to My voice. For this I desire that you pray, that you make a novena by praying on the rosary beads daily the following prayer:
"Divine Heart of JESUS Provide, that I may become a great saint, for Your glory and that of Your Holy Mother Most Holy."
If you pray like this My little children, I promise you that My Son JESUS will give you many graces and aids so that you can advance and rise in holiness. I want great holiness from you, I expect great things from you! You are greatly loved by the Lord and you cannot remain stationary in sin. The things of the world are not for you, the things of HEAVEN are for you. HEAVEN has already chosen you little children, all that is needed now is for you to choose HEAVEN and what it desires and has planned for you.
Continue to pray the HOLY ROSARY every day, continue with all the prayers that I have given you and commanded you to do. MY Immaculate HEART was greatly consoled by you in those days and also the HEART OF MY SON JESUS.
Upon you today I pour out the copious blessings of MY IMMACULATED AND RESCUSSED HEART, fruits of My sorrows and Tears."
MESSAGE FROM SAINT BENEDICT
"Marcos most dearly, I Benedict, am most glad to see you once again today. It has been almost two months since I and Rita came with Our Queen and great Lady, to bless you on your birthday and today I rejoice to be able to come and also bless all these people present.
Pray the Holy Rosary, the Rosary took Me to Heaven, it was not so many of My miracles that took Me to Heaven, but the Holy Rosary. Since I loved the Holy Rosary, I prayed it in the caves where I lived and then also in the monastery, I liked to spend many hours praying the Rosary without anything else wanting or desiring. The Holy Rosary for Me was like a honeycomb of delicious and sweet honey, which delighted My soul and made My soul simply burn and catch fire with love for God and Mary Most Holy. How many times She visited Me during the prayer of the Rosary, to show Her appreciation and predilection for this most holy and powerful prayer.Heaven, Heaven became near and accessible to Me, thanks to the Holy Rosary. How many graces the Holy Rosary has given Me, how many blessings and spiritual lights the Holy Rosary has bestowed upon Me. I am most grateful to the Holy Rosary, I am most grateful to My Queen and Lady who gave it to us, who gave it to all mankind.
I desire that you be most inflamed with love for the Holy Rosary, I desire that you pray it piously and fervently, whenever you can on your knees and shedding copious tears of gratitude to the Lady for having given it to all mankind.
The Holy Rosary is the greatest treat, the greatest prize and gift that the Blessed Virgin has given to the world after the Word became Flesh. Oh, Yes! In each bead of the Rosary you dry a Tear of the Mother of God and at the same time receive from Her a new grace. Each time you utter those most blessed and wonderful, holy words 'Hail Mary full of grace' a ray of grace will pour forth from the Blessed Virgin and descend upon your souls.
Pray the Holy Rosary, pray also all the prayers that She has given you, for these prayers annihilate Satan and the demons and cause many souls to escape from their clutches and be converted and saved.
I, Benedict give you peace, I leave you peace and I promise you My constant protection, for you who come Here in this holy place always and who are always here at the Lady's feet consoling her, you are My brothers, you are My protected ones, you are My property and I will guard and defend you as such. Peace."
MESSAGE FROM SAINT RITA DE CASSIA
"-Marcos... Blessed Marcos I RITA DE CASSIA, servant of the LORD and of MARIA SANTÍSSIMA, RITA of the Sorrows and of the Sorrows of the LORD and of the LADY, I give you My blessing today and to all who are here also My blessing... Love the Passion of JESUS, venerate it more, contemplate it more. Do especially on Fridays special reverence to the Passion of JESUS and adoration of the HOLY CROSS. The Passion of CHRIST is the greatest book of holiness that exists, in it there are lessons for all men and for all situations in life.
In the Passion of JESUS I found all My joy and all My peace.... In the Passion of JESUS I found all My strength and all My Love.... In the Passion of JESUS and of MARY I found all My comfort and all My joy....
You will find it too, if you devote yourselves every Friday to meditating on the sufferings of OUR LORD and the MOTHER of Sorrows, if only for at least ten little minutes.
Try... try on Saturdays to consecrate Saturday afternoon to the LADY of Sorrows as SHE herself requested of you yesterday. Obey these Messages of the MOTHER OF GOD and you will have the blessing of GOD, in your souls and in your lives...
Truly I tell you, whatever you ask for on Saturday afternoon during prayer and reparation to the LADY OF Sorrows will be granted, as long as it is not contrary to GOD's will and does not lead your souls away from HIM. Whatever is asked for on Saturday afternoon in the Saturday afternoon prayer the LADY OF Sorrows will grant you and OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST will give you, because HE desires more than ever to see HIS HOLY MOTHER comforted-loved by all His Children.
This place is Holy, HEAVEN here touches the earth, Saints and Angels populate and inhabit this place night and day. Come here and join us in prayer that in one chorus we may adore GOD, bless His Name and the name of His HOLY MOTHER and love and venerate them with special affection, love and devotion.
Truly I tell you, whoever defends this place by saving the souls of others, will predestine his own soul to salvation. I RITA, will defend you, I will always help you, pray to me more, remember me especially, on the 22nd of each month and remember BENEDITO especially on the 4th of each, month with special prayers. On these days speak to us more, pray to us, come to the feet of Our images so that there we can fill you with Graces... No Grace will be denied there, you will have free and full access to all of them, you will reap as many Graces as you can carry, as many Graces as you can harvest....
Verily I say to you, imitate Me in the acceptance of sufferings and in the conformity with sufferings, with the afflictions and anguish of this life. This life passes quickly and pain and suffering will not last forever if you know how to use them to your own advantage and favor by accepting them as true steps on the holy ladder, which lead you to HEAVEN.
We now bless you all and wish you Peace..."
Saint Benedict the Moor
Birth: March 31, 1524 in Sicily, Italy
Death: April 4, 1589 in Palermo, Italy
Liturgical feast : October 5
Patron saint: of cooks
Saint Benedict OFM (Sicily, March 31, 1524 - Palermo, April 4, 1589) (Saint Benedict the Black or Saint Benedict the African or Saint Benedict the Moor).
Some versions say that he was born in Sicily, southern Italy, in 1524 into a poor family and was a descendant of slaves from Ethiopia.
Other versions say that he was a slave captured in North Africa, which was very common in southern Italy at this time.
In this case, he would be of Moorish origin, not Ethiopian.
In any case, everyone counts that he had the nickname "Moorish" for the color of his skin.
He was a sheepherder and a farmer.
By the age of 18 he had already decided to consecrate himself to the service of God, and at 21 a monk of the hermit brothers of St. Francis of Assisi called him to live among them and he accepted.
He took vows of poverty, obedience, and chastity and consistently walked the streets barefoot and slept on the ground without covers.
CONVENT IN WHICH SAINT BENEDICT LIVED
He was much sought after by the people, who wished to hear his advice and ask him for prayers.
Fulfilling his vow of obedience, after 17 years among the hermits, he was assigned to be a cook in the convent.
His piety, wisdom and holiness led his brothers in community to elect him Superior of the Monastery, although he was illiterate and a layman, for he had not been ordained a priest.
His brothers considered him enlightened by the Holy Spirit, for he made many prophecies.
At the end of his appointed time as Superior, he resumed his activities in the convent kitchen with much humility but with joy.
Always concerned about those poorer than himself, those who did not even have their daily food, he would take some supplies from the convent, hide them inside his clothes, and take them to the hungry who filled the streets of the cities.
Tradition has it that on one of these outings, the new Superior of the Convent surprised him and asked,
"What are you hiding there, under your cloak, Brother Benedict?"
And the saint humbly answered, "Roses, my lord!" and, opening the robe, indeed roses of great beauty appeared, and not the food of which the Superior suspected.
Saint Benedict died at the age of 65 on April 4, 1589, in Palermo, Italy.
On the door of his cell in the Convent of Santa Maria de Jesus in Palermo is a plaque with the inscription in Italian indicating that it was the Cell of Saint Benedict and underneath the dates 1524-1589, to indicate the dates of his birth and death.
Some authors indicate 1526 as the year of his birth, but the friars of the Convent of St. Mary of Jesus consider the correct date to be 1524.
Every year after Easter, there is a mass and feast in his honor in the Portuguese town of Coval, municipality of Santa Comba Dão.
ANOTHER NARRATIVE
It is the year 1589. In a poor cell in the Franciscan convent of Santa Maria de Jesus, three kilometers from Palermo, southern Italy, the infirmarian observes the lay brother, an illiterate man, making a few movements on the bed of pain in which he has been for two months.
His face, worn out by the fatigue of 63 years of intense apostolic activities, lights up at a certain moment. His mouth opens and his eyes become fixed and ecstatic. "It's the end, the brother is crossing the threshold of eternity," thought the nurse. And he rushes off to call other friars to the final prayers for the dying.
The sick man, however, when the ecstasy is over and the nurse has returned, tells him: " Don't worry. I will let you know the day and time of my death. I will pass away on April 4 ".
To which the nurse retorts, " Imagine, Friar, how full this house will be!"
For he well knew the extraordinary fame of sanctity of that friar, which was so great everywhere, while he was still alive, that one rarely finds anything like it in the history of the Church."
- " You can rest assured, no one will come," the Saint assured him. The two prophecies were fulfilled to the letter.
Indeed, on the day of his death and burial there was a great influx of people for the feast of the Divine in a church of the Holy Spirit on the outskirts of Palermo, and so no one came to the convent.
On the appointed day, the Saint received the consolation of the Sacraments of the Church: confession, communion, extreme unction, including the papal blessing.
The sick man sits up in bed and, looking up to heaven, prays and contemplates. He invokes his patron saints: Saint Francis of Assisi, Saint Michael the Archangel, and the Apostles Saint Peter and Saint Paul.
At a certain moment during the prayers, and after a vision of Saint Ursula, Benedict - that is the name of the dying man - pronounces in a loud voice: " Into your hands, Lord, I commend my spirit ". Then he lies down, closes his eyes, and takes his last breath.
RELICS: HABIT WORN BY BENEDICT
At that very moment, not far from there, Benedita Nastasi, 10 years old and niece of the Saint, watching a dove that had entered inside the house, heard her uncle's voice:
- " Benedita, you want something from there.
- " From there, where, my uncle?" - inquires the girl.
- "From Heaven, my daughter " - completes the familiar voice. And the little dove disappears. ..
Our very popular Saint Benedict the Black was called Benedict of San Filadelfo, because such was the name of the locality (today San Fratello) near Messina (Sicily) where he was born, in 1526. He was the son of Ethiopian slaves, bought by the Manasseri family.
It is known that the Saint was a shepherd, later becoming a hermit. To obey an order of the Pope, he later joined the Franciscan Order as a lay brother in the convent of Santa Maria de Jesus, in the vicinity of Palermo.
There he was noted as a miraculous cook, for frequently the Angels from Heaven descended to help him prepare meals.
Although he was unlettered and was only a lay brother, such were the gifts and charisms with which Divine Providence adorned his soul, that he was elected Superior and Master of Novices of the convent.
Following the example of the Seraphic Father St. Francis, his Founder, the countless number of miracles and prodigies operated already in life by St. Benedict also constitute true fioretti. It is impossible to mention them all. All that remains for us to do is to mention at least a few.
Cure of cancerous
Before settling in the convent of Santa Maria, Benedict led an eremitic life in Nazana for eight years and in Mancusa in the Palermo region.
So his reputation for holiness was already high. One day as he was passing through Mancusa, he was called to see a sick woman in a hovel. "I cannot do much for her, for I am not a priest. But I can pay her a visit and pray for her," he replied.
"Help me, Friar," cried the poor woman, gnawed by a cancer in her breast, which was spreading terribly. "Give me a blessing, for God's sake!"
Touched by the pain of the sick woman and the distress of her relatives, the Saint approached the bed, prayed with all present, encouraged the sick woman to have Faith in God, and then, at her request, traced the sign of the cross over the wound in her breast. Instantly she was healed, leaving her with only a scar !
Soon after, Benedict beat a retreat, to escape any thanks or praise.
Resurrection of the dead
Once, four ladies from Palermo - Eulalia, Lucrezia, Francesca and Eleonora, the latter with her five-month-old child in her arms came to visit the Saint at the convent of Santa Maria.
On their way back to the city, still near the convent, the cart overturned and pinned the child, who died instantly. The friars came to their aid, and Benedict was faced with the pathetic scene of the mother hugging the shapeless little body.
Benedict approached them and said, "Stop crying. The child is not dead; you can feed it."
Those around thought the Saint was delirious. However, as soon as the mother had obeyed him, the child began to smile, leaving everyone stunned.
An analogous fact happened with the son of John George Russo. While visiting the convent with his wife and some relatives, the wagon in which they were traveling fell off a bridge and the child was crushed.
"Have great confidence in Our Lady. Let us pray." This recourse to the mediation of the Blessed Virgin, moreover, was a constant in all of St. Benedict's interventions.
Everyone knelt down and began to pray; then the child opened his eyes, awakening from the sleep of death.
Even before he became a hermit-and perhaps this was the first miracle performed by St. Benedict-a dead little child was brought before him.
Grief-stricken, the Saint took that inanimate body in his left arm, and with his right hand made the sign of the cross over the little frostbitten forehead. After those present prayed the Our Father and the Hail Mary, the miracle of the resurrection took place!
Miracle of the flowers
Saint Benedict had the custom of collecting the leftover food from the convent in his kitchen apron, to distribute it later to the poor.
Once the Saint met the viceroy of Sicily, Bishop Marcantonio Colonna, who, attracted by the fame of his holiness, came to visit him. Curious, the illustrious visitor asked Benedict what he was carrying so carefully.
He simply opened his apron and showed. .. flowers, so fresh and aromatic that the viceroy took them to the altar of his private chapel.
Fish that appear and loaves that multiply
On one occasion the convent's provisions ran out. It was winter and raining in torrents. And the religious were not even able to go out for alms.
Benedict asked a friar, who was assisting him in the kitchen, to open the Holy Gospels somewhere and read what was written. The following passage was read: "Do not worry about your life, as to what you will eat, nor about your body, as to what you will wear. Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap, nor gather into barns. And yet your heavenly Father feeds them" (Mt 6:25-26).
Enlightened by these words and moved by his heroic trust in Providence, the Saint set to work. He filled every pot, pan, and large canister in the convent with water. The next morning they were full of fresh fish, many of them alive.
On another occasion when Benedict, then superior of the friary, ordered the brother porter, Vito da Girgenti, to distribute bread to the poor, the religious, seeing that the queue was enormous, reserved at the bottom of the basket some loaves of bread for the friars.
The fact came to the knowledge of Benedict, who summoned the porter to call back all the poor who had run out of bread: "Give the poor everything in the basket - Benedict ordered - for Providence will help us."
Upon obeying, Brother Vito noticed with amazement that the bread in the basket no longer ran out; the more he took out, the more appeared !
The relapsing friars
Once, three novices decide to escape from the convent and return home. At dawn they climb the wall, and in the street, as they sing victory for their pseudo-façade, they see a figure coming towards them. It was Friar Benedict, who asked them: "What are you lying here at this hour? Go back to the convent at once!" And he advised them to pray a lot for perseverance in their vocation.
Months later, they again fall into the temptation to flee, and they take great care that no one knows anything. When they again gain the street, they come face to face with Friar Benedict, who opens his arms, saying, "Halt there, where do you think you are going?" The three recognize a sign from God in order to persevere, they ask the saint for forgiveness, promising not to repeat the fault
." The Holy One, the Holy One". ..
With every miracle that happened, the people would flock to the convent gate, acclaiming and praising the Saint. His popularity and veneration became such that he once disrupted a "Corpus Christi" procession. On that occasion, the friars took part in the procession from the Cathedral of Palermo.
And St. Benedict was designated to carry the processional cross, at the head of the procession. As he fixed his eyes on the Crucified One, he felt rapt in love for Our Lord and went into ecstasy . His body began to glide smoothly, without his feet moving
.Upon seeing that, the people erupted in shouts of admiration, "Look at the Saint, the Saint!" The procession lines became completely disorganized. Those in charge of order shouted for people to line up. But there was no way, and the procession soon resumed to the Cathedral...
The incorrupt body
When, after the Divine Holy Spirit celebrations, the people learned that Benedict had died and was already buried, they all headed to Santa Maria de Jesus. The tomb was in a place of difficult access, and the great influx of pilgrims disturbed the life of the friars. And their number grew every day, in proportion as the news of the miracles worked near the grave spread.
They began to beg for relics of the Saint. His robes and the clothes of the bed where he died were made into strips. Even his bed and mattress were reduced to small pieces, eagerly disputed by visitors.
On May 7, 1592, three years after his death, his body, incorrupt and exuding sweet perfume, was placed in a one installed in an open cavity in a wall of the sacristy of the church of St. Mary of Jesus. However, the sacristy soon became a chapel, with people singing, praying, and paying promises. This for nineteen years on end.
On October 3, 1611, with Cardinal Doria present, St. Benedict's body was again transferred to a magnificent crystal urn in a side chapel of the church of Santa Maria de Jesus itself, in the old Franciscan convent, three kilometers from Palermo, a city that, even before the official recognition of the Church, took him as its Patron Saint in 1652.
Saint Benedict was declared blessed in 1763 by Clement XIII and canonized by Pope Pius VII on May 25, 1807.
Worship in Brazil
The state of Bahia was the pioneer in the devotion to Saint Benedict in Brazilian lands.
Even before his canonization there was a brotherhood in his honor there. At the same time, devotion to the Saint put down deep roots in Maranhão.
Images of Saint Benedict are known to have existed at least since 1680 in Olinda, Recife, Igaraçu (PE), Belém do Pará, and Rio de Janeiro.
The same was true in São Paulo. A century before he was declared a saint by the Church, he was already venerated as such in the churches attended by the members of the Venerable Brotherhood of Nossa Senhora do Rosário dos Homens Pretos (1707). And today devotion to the Saint is already a national phenomenon. There is no lack of parishes, chapels, or at least one altar with the image of the Black Saint all over Brazil.
